Florida’s Teacher of the Year Program annual events conclude each year with the announcement of the state’s most celebrated educator. The 2027 Florida Teacher of the Year Gala took place at Rosen Shingle Creek in Orlando, Florida on the evening of Thursday, July 20th, 2026, with Interim Commissioner of Education Dr. Paul O. Burns making the announcement.

2026 Educator Legacy Award
Jennifer Bryant, Sumpter County
Presented by Kathy Hebda, Division of Florida Colleges Chancellor, and Eve Nieto, Florida Department of Education
The Educator Legacy Award is presented to an educator dedicated to improving the decision-making, critical thinking and civic responsibility of their students, making sure they are prepared and ready for the future
With 19 years of dedicated service in Sumter County, Jennifer has made a lasting impact on the lives of countless students through her commitment to academic excellence, mentorship, and community leadership.
As a middle school mathematics teacher, she consistently demonstrates exceptional instructional skill and an unwavering belief in her students’ potential. Her ability to prepare students for advanced mathematics is evident in their continued success.
Beyond the classroom, Jennifer is a dedicated mentor who has guided student interns from local colleges and provides valuable support to beginning teachers at her school. Her willingness to share her expertise reflects her commitment to strengthening the educational community as a whole.

Cliff Dawson, Manatee County

The Consortium of Florida Education Foundations “Invested in Excellence Award” is presented to a teacher who has a tremendous impact on the lives of their students, their school and their community.
Cliff Dawson is a high school music educator whose impact extends far beyond the band room and whose commitment to excellence has transformed opportunities for students throughout Manatee County.While his primary role is teaching band, Cliff’s influence reaches every corner of his school community. Through his vision and dedication, the Braden River Marching Band of Pirates has expanded its reach from local community parades to prestigious international performances.Beyond musical achievement, Mr. Dawson is invested in developing future leaders. He launched a Student Leadership Council designed to strengthen campus environment, encourage participation in schoolwide events and teach valuable leadership skills that students will carry long after graduation.
America 250 Award
Kenneth Horne, Leon County
Presented by Frank Brogan, Former Commissioner of Education and Lt. Governor of Florida
The America 250 Award is presented to a teacher who exemplifies a commitment to lifelong learning and professional excellence. The award recognizes an educator who inspires students to become informed, engaged citizens by fostering an understanding of civics, democratic principles, and civic responsibility. Through their work, they help prepare the next generation to contribute positively to their communities, state, and nation.
Kenneth Horne is a civics teacher at William J Montford Middle School in Leon County, as a civics educator, mentor, musician, and historian, Kenneth exemplifies the spirit of the America 250 initiative. He inspires students to understand the nation's past, engage thoughtfully in the present and prepare to become informed and responsible citizens of the future.
His passion for American history extends beyond the school setting. Kenneth has served in various roles in museums throughout the state of Florida. Through this work, he helped audiences develop a deeper understanding of the people, events, and traditions that shaped our nation.

The Commissioner’s Leadership Award was created to recognize an exceptional leader whose unwavering commitment to education has made a profound impact on students, educators and schools. This award honors an individual who advocates for student achievement, demonstrates an extraordinary ability to create opportunities, and inspires excellence in learning.
Superintendent Carlin recognizes that student success is built upon strong support systems and works tirelessly to provide teachers, staff and school leaders with the resources, encouragement, and professional opportunities needed to improve student outcomes.
She is known for her dedication, compassion and belief in the potential of every student and educator. Her influence extends beyond her own organization, strengthening education throughout the state and leaving a lasting legacy of achievement, opportunity, and excellence.
